Peter N. Principe

Email Peter Peter Principe was born to a career buying and selling the elegant row houses and chic condominiums of Washington, D.C.

The son of a builder and the grandson of a real estate broker, this third-generation Washingtonian has a keen interest in history (which he studied at the University of Maryland) and in historic architecture, which he explores through courses at the National Trust for Historic Preservation.

Licensed since 1995, Peter has made a particular specialty of condominiums on the Hill and in the Dupont Circle, Adams Morgan and Woodley Park neighborhoods of the capital city.

"Condos are a smart place to put your money," he counsels would-be buyers. "They have a very strong resale value in D.C. However, the condo and single-family home markets are very different."

"Understanding the differences in value and amenities of the individual buildings, the condo fee structures and other factors is extremely important," Peter continues. He's developed a reputation for his skill in helping clients make sense of all these considerations in their quest for a new place to live.

Peter lives in Washington with his Springer spaniel, Leda, and his Cavalier King Charles, Sadie, who love to tag along with him on weekends in his cabin in West Virginia.

Kate Melville

Email Kate Virginia native Kate Melville joined the Von Schlegel Realty Team in the summer of 2005, after earning her real estate licenses in D.C. and Virginia, and leaving her job in the restaurant business.

"I knew I didnt want a desk job," she says firmly. "I like to be up and about." The restaurant business was fun, she adds, but it was never a long-term plan.

Kate met Jackie when she and Peter Principe sold her neighbors home on the Hill. The three hit it off, and Kate joined the Team.

"You have to be able to talk with anyone," she says. "You want to find that common ground with people of different ages and backgrounds, and you also have to be good at multi-tasking to get everything done."

Kate's already sold several homes, one to a close friend from college (George Mason University, Class of 1996). Especially with first-time buyers like her pal, "you really have to guide people through the process" and help translate into plan English the pros and cons of "adjustable rate mortgages" and "certificates of occupancy."

Kate's excited to be part of the Von Schlegel team. "Everybody backs everybody up," she says. "I wanted to be able to work independently, but also to have support when I needed it. I have a lot of questions, and I know I can ask anyone" in the office for help learning the real-estate ropes.

When Kate's not working she enjoys biking, spending time with friends and family and traveling just about anywhere!
